Visited with Phil Ortez and his brother this evening. He's the maker of the original flounder pounders, my favorite bait for flounder jigging. He gave us so many tips on fishing with these lures, even a trick using a flounder pounder and a cutip. I posted a couple pics of a few flounder we've picked up this season. I understand the flounder are really moving through the ship channel, but being landlocked we fish a lot at the pass. Cannot wait to apply my new found flounder pounder jigging knowledge. And, by the way, Phil and his brother were awesome hosts, hope I get the pleasure of fishing with them one day. Any flounder stories out there?
North Myrtle Backwater Charters with Capt. Keith and Feeding Frenzy Charters for Flounder
The Flounder bite is heating. The water is warming up and the bait is show up in the creeks and waterway. Flounder bit is HOT around North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We fished on Thursday and Caught 30 Flounder mostly in the 13" to 14 3/4" range. We did end up with six keeper in the 15" to 18" range. We went thought 8 dozens mud minnows.
The Red Drum bite still is going on to. We end catching and releasing 5 that where in the slot. And we stopped counting on the small Reds that were released.
The trout bite has been good also lot of trout in the 13" to 16" range too.
Good Luck and Tight Lines,
If you would like to book a Backwater or Gulf Stream trip, there are still some days available. Don’t miss out on this experience of a lifetime.

Thanks Freespool. I'm ready for them now. that's the same size hooks I purchased.
I read online that with circle hooks you weren't suppose to try and set the hook? That the fish would take the hook and when you felt a tug you just started reeling in.
Hopefully I'll get into a mess of Flounder again and get a chance to try out these new hooks. I love Flounder
I love Flounder but have only caught one in my life, by accident !! I joined this group in hopes that someone could steer me correctly or at least tell me what I am doing wrong. A couple of evenings ago while wade fishing we got into a mess of flounder and I couldn't reel one in to save my life. They were taking my bait, live mullet and pin striped fish and pulling my line tight, then would let go. I had gone out that day chasing trout and red fish, so NO I didn't have a circle hook on. I didn't even own a circle hook until yesterday. Is that really it? You need a circle hook? Can someone please advise me as to how I can catch a flounder?
Thanks and Happy Easter
